Who runs this

Father Christmas Video is run by Matt Baker, a sole trader in the UK.

For anything about your data, email mattpbakerdev@gmail.com.

What we collect, and why

From the letter you fill in:

• your child’s first name and age;
• the first names of up to three friends;
• three things your child did well this year;
• one wish;
• how to say the name, if you tell us;
• your email address.

We use these only to write and record Father Christmas’s message, and to send you the link to it. We don’t ask for photos, we don’t make accounts, and we never ask for an address.

Who helps us

These companies do part of the work for us:

Anthropic

writes and checks the script from your letter.

ElevenLabs

turns the script into Father Christmas’s voice. When you tap “Hear him say”, it voices only your child’s first name (or how you spell it to be said) in a short hello, and we don’t store that.

fal

makes the video of him speaking.

Stripe

takes your payment. It sees your email address and your child’s first name, because it is in the name of what you buy.

Resend

sends the email with your private link.

Vercel

hosts the site and stores the order, the voice and the video. The video sits at a private web address only you are sent; anyone you share that link with can watch it.

Upstash

counts how many name checks and letters have been sent, using a scrambled version of your IP address, never the address itself.

Where it goes

Some of these companies are in the United States, so your details may be handled there. They act only on our instructions.

How long we keep it

What we hold, and when we delete it:

• Your letter, your email address, the video and the certificate are kept until the end of 31 December, so the video still plays on Christmas Day, or for 30 days after your order if that’s later. Then we delete them, whether or not you bought.
• Name check and letter counts are forgotten after two days.

What our providers keep

Some of the companies that help us keep their own copies for a while, under their own policies. Deleting your order on our side doesn’t delete these:

• ElevenLabs and fal may keep a copy of the voice and the video for a limited time.
• Resend keeps a log of the email we sent you.
• Anthropic handles the script under its policy for data sent through its API.
• Stripe keeps its record of your payment for as long as the law requires.

Your rights

To have everything deleted sooner, or to get a copy of what we hold, email mattpbakerdev@gmail.com. Please send it from the address you ordered with.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

This service is for parents and guardians. Your child never uses it, and we never contact them. You tell us about them, and you choose when they see the video.
